How to Convert Canva to an HTML File

Canva offers a handful of features that allow anyone with access to a computer to create beautiful, professional designs. When you’re done creating, you have the ability to download your file in a variety of formats. But what if you need your design in the form of an HTML file?

There are several ways to save a Canva design as an HTML file. This is done from the design’s edit page under “Share This Design.” This is most easily done by downloading the design as an embed code. However, you could also save the file as a PDF and use an HTML converter to change the file.

Sometimes, we want to do more with the designs we create than simply print them out, especially for those of us who show up primarily online. Keep reading to learn how to save and convert Canva documents to an HTML file.

How to Convert a Canva Document to HTML

Having your designs saved as an HTML file gives you more freedom and range when using the file online. Whether you are posting to social media, sharing in a newsletter, or creating your own website, an HTML file makes it so that people can find your content in a web search, allowing you to reach a wider audience.

If you do a lot of your design work on sites like Canva or Placeit, you may have noticed that the ability to download an HTML file isn’t very clear. Though Canva has worked to simplify the process of sharing designs online, sometimes a simple file download is all you need.

To convert your document to an HMTL file, you will first need to download your design in a different file format. From the design editing page, click the share button in the upper right-hand corner. From here, select PDF print from the dropdown menu and click download.

Converting a PDF File into an HTML File

Once you have your file downloaded as a PDF, it’s time to convert. This can be done a couple of ways.

The first thing you could try is using an online file converter. Several different services are available online that allow you to upload your file, then quickly convert it within seconds.

Another option is to use Adobe Acrobat to convert your PDF. To do this, simply open Acrobat and find the Export To submenu in the File menu. Next, click HTML Web Page. This will open up your PDF as a HTML file in your default web browser.

Embedding Canva Designs on Websites

Most of the time, the reason we need an HTML file for our design is to create a web presence. A quick way to get your design online in a searchable way is to embed it onto your website. This can be done by generating an HTML embed code.

To do this, click the Share button at the top of the edit page for your design. At the bottom of the pop up window, you should see three dots next to the word “More.” Clicking this will bring you to another page with a larger range of options.

Next, find the button that looks like a forward slash in between the greater than and less than symbols (</>). It should say “Embed” beneath the button. Clicking this will bring you to another page with the option to copy either the HTML embed code or the Smart embed link.

Copy the embed code and paste it on your blog or website. Not only will this share your design online, but any modifications you make will automatically update on your site over time.

Sharing On Social From Canva

Posting to social media is another easy way to get your content online. This can also be done from the Share button by selecting “Share on social.” Canva offers a variety of platforms to choose from, including:

  • Instagram
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • TikTok
  • Pinterest
  • LinkedIn
  • Tumblr

Keep in mind that in order to publish directly to your social media site, you will have to connect your accounts on Canva. This can usually be done from the editor by selecting the platform you would like to use and clicking “Connect new account.”
