For the longest time, Canva did not have any feature that allowed its users to underline text in the application. But a new feature has recently been introduced. In this tutorial, we will discuss how to underline text using both the old-school way and the newly introduced underline feature.

Why is Underlining Text So Hard in Canva?
When it comes to making visuals, Canva is unparalleled. Canva has a far shallower learning curve than more complex programs like Adobe Photoshop. And the graphics you are capable of making are just stunning.
The program could be better, despite its widespread use. Of course, there is no such thing as perfection. Canva is the same way. You may describe it as a work in progress. As a result, new features are constantly being added.
Consider the peculiar instance of the Underlining Text functionality. It’s a rather fundamental function that you anticipate Canva to offer. Yet until recently, Canva didn’t have the functionality.
It’s stunning when you think about it. While using Canva in the past, you had to use complicated methods to underline text. But now, it only takes a few clicks to complete. You no longer need to use straight lines as your improvised underlining.
How to Underline Text in Canva
You can follow the steps below to learn how to underline text in Canva.
For more information on how to do this, watch the video below:
Using the Underline Feature
Select the text you wish to highlight by clicking on it.
The text will be highlighted in blue, and a toolbar with text-specific editing options will emerge just above the editor. When a text element is a member of a group, only the portion enclosed by a solid blue line is emphasized, not the dotted section.
You may also highlight only a portion of the text in an element if you do not wish to underline the entire thing. Just click twice on the element. There will be a cursor. You may now pick text by dragging and dropping the cursor over it, exactly like in any other text editor.
Whether or not you have the left panel closed will now determine the ‘Underline’ option’s visibility. The “Underline” (U) option will show up immediately on the toolbar if the left panel is closed.
Nevertheless, if the panel is extended, this option is slightly hidden. Look for a menu with three dots (‘More’) in the top right corner of your toolbar to access this feature.
The first toolbar will disappear, and more options will show up. Click the “underline” (U) button to highlight the chosen text.
Your content will have a matching font underlined beneath it.
Using the Old-School Technique
You can highlight text in your Canva designs without resorting to the program’s built-in underline feature by following these steps instead:
- Choose “Elements” on the left menu of your Canva dashboard. Enter “line” into the search box.
- Choose the first line that Canva presents to you at this point.
- Incorporate this into your work.
- This line may now be easily resized and stretched out to your preferred length (to match the length of your text).
- If the line is the right size, just slide it beneath the text to create an underline.
Using this method has the benefit of allowing you to modify the underline’s color.
Conclusion
And there you go. Even though underlining text in Canva is a bit more complicated than in other design apps, it’s not too hard to learn. We hope the instructions in this article will prove helpful when you decide to underline text in your own Canva creations.
